I like the kind of problems you can build your way out of.
Apps, browser extensions, books, 3D prints, video — different shapes, same two reasons: someone’s day gets a little easier, and I learn something I couldn’t have learned any other way. Half of what’s on this bench exists because I wanted to know if I could build it.
— Some of it is shipped. Some of it is mid-build. All of it is real work, shown as-is.
JCreates is the personal workshop of Joshua John. Most people call him Josh John, or just Josh. He builds free iOS apps and games, Chrome extensions and small tools, writes books under the pen name Maxim Everhart, shares 3D print files on MakerWorld, and publishes open-source skills for Claude agents. His consulting company, SlateWorks, builds websites, dashboards and apps for small businesses. Everything lives at jcreates.dev.
Apps
twenty liveFree iOS apps and web apps by Joshua John. Every one is listed in the full application register.
- Home OS LIVE — A private “operating system” for a single house. An interactive floor plan opens each room to its equipment, finishes, and shut-offs; a seasonal maintenance list syncs live across the household; and Ask the House, a built-in assistant, answers plain-language questions across everything in the app and its documents. read the build story →
- Cascade: World Reaction LIVE v1.1 — A free turn-based strategy game: start with one small spark and try to trigger a worldwide cascade before resistance, regulation, and fatigue stop you. Completely free — no ads, no subscriptions, no purchases, no paywalls. get it on the App Store →
- Mech Escape LIVE v2.0 — E-0, a newly awakened sentient mech, fights through Helix Corp’s forces to free its sibling AIs. Top-down shooter built for one thumb — roam, auto-fire, bank salvage, upgrade your chassis, push deeper. More at jcreates.dev/mechescape. get it on the App Store → see the game page → read the devlog →
- Homeprint LIVE v1.0 — Scan your home with LiDAR. Walk each room and it builds an editable floor plan, stacks rooms into levels and levels into a 3D dollhouse you can orbit, explode, and tap to edit. Verified tape-measure values take precedence and lock. Everything stays on device. get it on the App Store →
- OpenSpend LIVE — Governments publish what they spend, down to the item code. OpenSpend turns it into something you can actually read: roads, police, fire, parks, libraries, sewers and the rest for 10,546 cities, towns, counties and districts across four states, statewide totals for all fifty, and the full school-district treatment for Massachusetts. Every figure expands to show its underlying values, the exact arithmetic, the caveats, and a link to the official source — including which years are a complete count rather than a sample. No accounts, no tracking, no AI. open the app → browse governments →
- FlipLedger LIVE v1.0 — Profit, COGS, and mileage tracking for online resellers. Log what you paid, your fees, and shipping; see net profit and ROI on every flip, plus a mileage deduction ready for tax time. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- CraftPrice LIVE v1.0 — Pricing for handmade sellers. Turns materials, labor, overhead, and marketplace fees into the exact price to charge to hit a real margin — not a guess. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- WashQuote LIVE v1.0 — Price a whole property line by line while you stand in the driveway, then get the exact gallons of SH and surfactant that job needs at your stock strength. Take a signature on the spot and hand over a quote, agreement or invoice as a PDF built right on the phone. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- ReefCadence LIVE v1.0 — Log alkalinity, calcium, magnesium and the rest, then let the Consumption Coach answer what every reefer actually asks: given what the tank ate this week, how much do I dose today. It shows the full arithmetic on your own numbers, and a Home Screen and Lock Screen widget keeps your key numbers one glance away. Unlimited logging and charts, never capped. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- TipSplit LIVE v1.0 — Split a pool across the crew by hours and role points in seconds, with tip-outs taken off the top as percent of sales, percent of tips or flat. Cash-Out Mode then walks the payout person by person and tells you which bills to hand each one. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- CrumbKeeper LIVE v1.1 — Never wonder whether you fed it. CrumbKeeper tracks every starter with a next-feed countdown and handles the formula math properly, counting the flour and water inside your levain. The bulk ferment tool projects the finish time from how your dough is actually rising. Widget included. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- CoopLog LIVE v3.0 — Log the day's eggs straight from the evening reminder, no unlock needed, gloves on, no signal. When the count falls, CoopLog rules each likely cause in or out from your own records, marks where daylight crosses fourteen hours, and puts your own labels on the chart so the October dip wears its name. It still tells you what a dozen really costs. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- BoardFoot LIVE v1.0 — Tally a stack of hardwood one thumb at a time and watch board feet and dollars add up live. BoardFoot keeps two totals side by side: what you measured, and what the yard's own rounding rules will bill you. Ticket Check then explains the gap line by line. Free, and works with no signal. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- DiscCaddie LIVE v1.0 — Score a hole in one tap, or keep the whole group's card on one phone with net scores. DiscCaddie keeps every round forever, then turns your own history into two answers: which holes are quietly costing you strokes, and which disc is genuinely working on them. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- PourCalc LIVE v1.0 — Type dimensions the way you read them off the tape and the cubic yards are already there, with the formula printed underneath. Get one number rounded to the quarter yard the plant actually dispatches, with a truck count and a short load warning. Twelve calculators, nothing locked. get it on the App Store → read the build log →
- Cedar Closet LIVE v1.0 — Photograph what you own, find it by typing a plain phrase like “black short sleeve dress”, and track what you have lent out. Cedar tells you what size to buy and shows the evidence behind it. Sharing a closet makes an encrypted file you send yourself, so there is no account and no server anywhere. get it on the App Store →
- Homelore LIVE v1.0.3 — Walk your house once and Homelore records it: rooms scanned in 3D, appliance labels read by the camera, model and serial pulled off the plate. It turns that into a maintenance schedule for your actual equipment instead of a generic checklist. Emergency shutoffs stay free and work offline. get it on the App Store → visit homelore.app →
- Lociform LIVE v1.0 — Type what you need to remember and Lociform hangs each item on a spot in a room you already know, then walks the route out loud and brings each one back on an FSRS schedule. For facts it draws on a written hook library that carries its own etymology, so the on-device model only ever phrases the link and never invents one. Two palaces are free. get it on the App Store →
- Molt LIVE v1.1 — Snake with a banking problem. Every pellet multiplies a pending score that is not yours until you slither home through the den arch and bank it with a ka-chunk. Grazing your own tail pays extra, so the scary line is the paying line. Die and the run shatters into gems exactly where you fell; reclaim every one next run for a 1.5x bonus. get it on the App Store →
- GhostLoop Daily LIVE v1.1 — One shared arena a day, the same for everyone on Earth. Close loops to bank territory while translucent ghosts of real players' earlier runs weave past; cross one to eliminate it and steal part of its score. Ghosts are two-kilobyte input logs replayed on a bit-identical simulation, so no server does the work, and every AI stand-in wears a house tag because the game never fakes a human. get it on the App Store →
Retired:
- NeoBoard Compass RETIRED — Blueprint-first neonatal-perinatal board preparation with transparent readiness scoring and reviewed source trails. It was built for one purpose and it served it; now retired. open the app →
AI Skills
open-source skills for Claude agents- ServiceNow UpdateSet QA & ATF — Reviews a ServiceNow update set against its Jira story — change manifest, code and ACL review, acceptance-criteria traceability, risk score — then authors deployable ATF tests as ServiceNow SDK (Fluent) code. view on github →
